Aromatherapy

There are many simple definitions of Aromatherapy. One could simply say that Aroma is scent, and Therapy is treatment, hence, Aromatherapy is scent treatment of ailments and conditions of the body. Once one understands the technicalities of what takes place in the body due to the chemical compounds and nuances found in the plant oils, it is evident that there is no simple definition. Aromatherapy is the skilled use of plant oils to change, alter, and affect our health in a positive way. Aromatherapy is a gentle yet powerful way to heal, cleanse, direct and strengthen ourselves and those around us.

6 Essential Oils I feel I would want with me at all times...

Ylang Ylang: This has such an effect on moods and emotions. I would want this to calm nerves, cope with depression, to encourage sexuality, help with heart issues and help with pain management. Very intense scent for intense use!

Grapefruit: This is my favorite! I purchase this one in large bottles. I use it for lightening the spirit, stimulating the immune system, weary mind, and body, and as a skin product ingredient.

Lavender: This can be used issues. Topically it has antimicrobial and antiseptic qualities and therefore could be used for burns, acne, athletes foot, sunburn, eczema, insect bites, and other wounds. Inhaled it can relax nervous tension, help with headache or migraine, PMS, vertigo, asthma, depression, and insomnia.

Eucalyptus: For my family this one is important because we have 2 asthmatics, and all suffer with allergies that can involve respiratory distress. I have used this oil in the form of a steam to help with expectoration for years...nothing works better! I use it in the diffuser when we are coping with germs that may settle in the chest. Also, it is great as a disinfectant, and helpful for sore muscles.

Peppermint: I use this a lot for my migraines, cleaning solutions, "cat-be-gone" and "ant-be-gone", as well as nausea, and fever. I wouldn't want to be without it.

Tea Tree Oil: I trust this oil as an antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiseptic, and antifungal. I use it in my cleaning products, acne and abscesses, infections on the skin, and a gargle for sore throat and mouth sores.

Essential oils are volatile and should not be used without advice from a Certified Aromatherapist.
